Jim Jenzen is the designer and builder of Lily Hill Farm and Learning Center in SW Michigan. Jim was born into a long-time family of carpenters and engineers. It was not unheard of for his family to go on summer vacation and to ask at the breakfast table, "What shall we build today? A boat? A porch?" By the age of 9, Jim was fascinated with wires and old radios. In his teens he built his mother an organ. He also built his first computer in the late 1970s. In his early 20s he went to work for Michigan Bell and spent the next 26 years building and remodeling MBT office buildings, and managing a variety of construction projects both small and large. He is an accomplished electrician, plumber, cabinet maker, builder & remodeler, designer, equipment repairman, computer technician, HVAC expert, and even does well with landscaping. There is almost nothing he can't do. His first building project was the Park Corners Building in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan, for which he won their "Best Design for Remodeling" Award in the early 1980s. He began building Lily Hill Learning Center in 1987, implementing many design features to reduce energy consumption, install multiple back-up systems, and indulge his unique flair for shaping spaces that serve both business and family at the same time. Today he is the owner of Jenzen Building and Design Service and works both on and off the farm from Kalamazoo to Chicago to Flint to Detroit. |
